Batik is an ancient wax-resist dyeing technique.  Using silk as the base fabric results in particularly beautiful colours and takes advantage of the draping quality of silk. The batik technique involves applying hot wax to areas of the fabric to block absorbtion of dye. Fabric can be immersed in many dye baths to create layered colours.
