Machine embroidery thread

Glowy glow in the dark & Rayon 40
Machine Embroidery thread

Thread used in machine embroidery is most often made of polyester or rayon in thread weight from 12 to 60 depending upon the type of project, the base fabric, and the end use of the garment.

Thread types:

Polyester thread is strong and usually colour fast. It can have a shiny finish. It also comes in glow-in-the-dark versions. It is robust enough to withstand regular washing so is the best choice for childrens clothes and uniforms.

Rayon has a beautiful glossy sheen. It is not quite as strong as polyester so is best saved for special items and lightweight fabrics

Metallic threads are very decorative and perfect for seasonal garments and homewares.

Thread weight:

12 weight is a very thick thread which is used when chunky textured stitches are desired.

40 weight is the weight of choice for both commercial machine embroidery and home hobbyists.

60 weight is used for fine details and when stitching on very delicate fabrics.
