Fabric stabilizers are essential for machine embroidery and applique. They support the fabric while stitching, keep the work to the correct shape, and prevent puckering. There are different types of fabric stabilizer, each suited to a particular type or weight of fabric, many of which are useful in patchwork quilting.

Tear away fabric stabilizers:

Madeira Cotton Soft is available in black or white. It is ideal for machine embroidery, applique, buttonholes, monogramming, and cut-work.

Madeira Cotton Stable is available in white. It is ideal for stretch fabrics, like T-shirts and jersey knits, and for buttonholes, appliques, and computer printed fabric.

Madeira Cotton Fix is a non-woven stabillizer with a paper backed release sheet. It is ideal for embroidering without a hoop.

Madeira Super Stable is a cut-away fabric stabilizer that is ideal for machine embroidery and applique in patchwork quilting, bags, cloth books and pictures.

Wash away fabric stabilizer:

Avalon film is a wash-away transparent clear film. It is useful for transfer of quilt patterns and sandwich & pizza technique.

Avalon Ultra film is an extremely stable water soluble film. It is perfect for embroidering without a hoop, thread sketching, lace work, quilt patterns, and sandwich technique.

Avalon Plus is a firm water-soluble, not-woven stabilizer which is perfect for freehand machine embroidery, dense embroidered applique, cut work, quilting, textile collage, and needle painting.
